Course Update
June
1st, 2010
The
maintenance team has been very busy this year with
an early start due to unusually warm weather in April.
The ice damage on #10 and #11 has recovered with both
areas seeing a lot new seed starting. The green speed
is beginning to pick up as we are now cutting at 1/8th
of an inch as well we have started our rolling and
veritcutting practices. The roughs are growing very
aggressively and we are doing our best to keep up
with it, we typically see this for a couple of weeks
every spring.
The
bunker work on #11 has been sodded and will have sand
added by June 1st to complete the project. We are
currently working on the path by #9 green and we are
hopeful it will be completed shortly. As well this
season we hope to start working on levelling a few
tees after the path on #9 is complete. Last week we
had some bees out on the course that formed a giant
mass of bees on the 10th hole. We looked into this
and apparently, they are just passing through and
are stopping to rest for a few days. We did zone off
the area to ensure that no one got near them, but
it was quite interesting to see.
I would
like to thank the Jeffery’s once again for their
generous donations of the flowers for our gardens,
as well as Sandy and his team of volunteers that planted
the gardens.
Course Update
March 1st, 2010
The 2010 season is
fast approaching as there is just a month before the
tentative opening date of April 1st. The 2009 season
was a great season with the course in great shape
throughout the year. We had our 50th Anniversary and
completed a number of improvements and upgrades to
the course. We hosted some large events at the club
that went very well and which generated good reviews
for the club. We did have some challenges especially
with the weather being a little cooler and wetter
than normal with over 26” of rain through the
growing season. We would like to thank all the volunteers
who helped during the 2009 season, this help is invaluable
to the maintenance of the course. Thank you.
This past fall we started work on a few projects,
we rebuilt the cart path around #8 green and the halfway
house. We started the path to #9 green which will
be completed in the spring. We have also begun work
on the bunkers on #10, 11 and 12, with #11 being completed
this spring.
We are preparing for another great year and have set
our annual clean-up date for March 27th, 2010 from
9am to 12pm. Please call or e-mail me if you can help
at 905-562-5641 ext.227 or steve@twentyvalleygolf.com
Students can earn some valuable volunteer hours this
day. It is a great help in preparing the course for
the season, as well as a chance to catch up with everyone
at the club.
The projects we will be working on for 2010 will be
completing the path to #9 green and continued upgrades
to bunkers with new sand and drainage. We will also
be levelling some tee boxes around the course.
We will continue to work on the IPM accreditation
program, which started in 2009. This is using cultural
practices scouting and monitoring techniques to reduce
the use of pesticides on the golf course.
The winter has been cool without much snow accumulation.
The course had a small layer of snow, which melted
in late January when temperatures rose. This left
some ice on the course that I have been monitoring.
Snow has finally started to accumulate as we have
seen 6” in the last couple of days, making it
feel like a winter season.
We hope everyone is well and we are sure you can’t
wait for spring to get out and play golf. We look
forward to seeing you on the clean up date on March
27th or when the course opens in April to start another
great year.
